YOGA is a 5000+ year old practice. It is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India.
What is Yoga?
Outside India, it has developed into a posture-based physical fitness, stress-relief and relaxation technique. Yoga in Indian traditions, however, is more than physical exercise; it has a meditative and spiritual core. It is one of the six major orthodox schools of Hinduism and has its own epistemology, ontology and metaphysics, and is closely related to Hindu Samkhya philosophy.
Yoga as exercise is a physical activity consisting largely of asanas, often connected by flowing sequences called vinyasas, accompanied by the breathing exercises of pranayama, and usually ending with a period of relaxation or meditation. It is often known simply as yoga, although nowadays there are many interpretations of the practice such as ashtanga, yin, Sivananda, Iyengar to name a few.
